What is a Circadian Rhythm?

Do you get sleepy around 8:00 PM do you have trouble waking up at 8:00 AM sometimes society makes us feel like we’re being a little lazy because we can’t wake up to, you know, at 5:00 AM every morning or we feel funny because by 8:00 PM we’re ready to go to bed and our friends are ready to go out for drinks that night. It’s, it’s less having to do with being lazy and more having to do with your circadian rhythm. Hi, I’m Javier and I’m the sleep coach at LiveWell mattress and furnishing centers and today I want to talk to you about circadian rhythm. Your sleep cycle is actually managed by an inner clock. Your body manages your sleep and wake time by releasing certain hormones. One is melatonin, the other one is serotonin. So what it does is melatonin actually starts releasing in those of us that are like known as early birds.
It starts releasing around 6:00 PM at little levels. Okay. Then around 8:00 PM it starts going up and spikes a little later in the night. Making sure that you get sleepy at a certain time and that you’re embedded a certain time. I mean basically we’re programmed to either be early birds or to be the night hours, night hours. What happens with them is they actually, they’re their melatonin levels don’t start spiking until a later time at night and because of that they have to sleep in a little later. They have to stay up a little later because what happens is basically you’re laying in bed and you just can’t go to sleep. I hope that this has helped some white in your understanding of what the circadian rhythm is because you’re going to be hearing it a lot. In these videos.
