We recently had a customer return to the store just to let us know how much he loved his new mattress. Does this sound like hype? Yes, I know, but there’s more to the story.
This customer had returned from serving his country with ailments that have severely hurt his health and state of being. He’s a veteran who served under very harsh circumstances and was exposed to chemicals and smokes that the human body does not recover from fully. His ability to sleep is hindered by health ailments that cause pain, and breathing issues, amongst other issues. To have a hero like this come back to our store and give us his time just so he can tell us what a difference a mattress made in his life was not only special but, to be honest, it was odd. I mean, we get emails or phone calls telling us “Hey! We love our new bed so much. Thank you, guys!” But this was an in-store visit, a trip, from someone who to leave his house is a big deal, and he was glowing with excitement to share with us. We’ve asked him to put his story on paper for us, and he’s told us he will, but I want to share what a difference SLEEP has made in one man’s life, and how much of a difference it can make in your life.
First, let me throw in a disclaimer here, we are not sleep doctors, we are a retailer specializing in finding our clientele a sleep surface that will not only last, but will support their body in ways that keep them from waking up at night and keep them from waking up in pain because their backs were not supported properly. That is who Sleep Well is.
Ok, so back to our visit with our friend. His first statement to us was regarding having the ability to lay down for extended periods of time and stay comfortable for the entire time. He has days when he can’t be mobile due to medical issues so laying down all day is a common need. He said he’d never had a bed that didn’t cause pressure in his nerves and cause him to constantly toss and turn. This is a common need that we’ve had to address with vendors. We had to find mattresses designed to eliminate pressure points. It’s not easy, it is very much a science to build a mattress with support and comfort levels that don’t eventually cause pressure.
His next brag was on the level of back support he had. He said even with his level of back discomfort he was able to stay in one position for longer than ever. He wasn’t waking up with paralyzing pain. He could get up and not be concentrating on just having the ability to be mobile. He’d not had that for years. He said this with a huge glowing smile on his face. The type of smile that tells you someone is ecstatic about his progress in something.
His most significant statement though, the one that made us tear up and our hearts swell, was that he’d been able to sleep. Once he was able to see that laying down wasn’t going to cause pain anymore and that he’d not have to toss and turn all the time, he got REAL sleep. You probably think that real sleep just happens, but it doesn’t in some cases. When your brain is trained to think that it’s going to be painful to lay down or that you won’t be able to just lay there due to pain, you cannot sleep. Your brain is trained to avoid pain, and if sleep becomes painful, your brain will fight it. His brain had taken the time to see that pain was subsiding, and had decided to take a break and let him receive real rest.
The REAL difference then became that with rest he was able to get up and get around more. He was able to move and start doing projects more often. His confidence grew. He told us that he was now able to make progress on Dr’s appointments, he was able to take fewer medications associated with his sleep patterns. He’s even seen a decrease in his depression symptoms.
Wow, for us this is a tear-jerking moment. We started this business to help people, to lead people to better sleep, but when you really, I mean REALLY, see that you’ve made a difference, it becomes a WHOA moment.
Thank you for reading this, thank you for being our customer, and thank you for giving us the opportunity to help you. Remember our tagline is more than a slogan, it’s the truth. When You Sleep Well, You Live Well.
